Sam Ryder brings on dancers with disabilities and prosthetics in Eurovision Set.

Sam Ryder has performed with a host of backing dancers with disabilities and prosthetics during the Eurovision Song Contest grand final.

The 33-year-old singer, who came second at last year’s contest in Turin with his track Space Man, took to the stage in a trademark sequined jumpsuit reminiscent of his 2022 Eurovision outfit to perform his empowering new single Mountain.
The track features lyrics partly inspired by the struggle of the Ukrainian people and calls on listeners to remember they are “an unstoppable force of nature”.

A group of dancers all with prosthetic limbs appeared on stage with Ryder and Queen drummer Roger Taylor, who delivered a raucous drum solo alongside a guitar solo from Ryder.

The performance, during the voting portion of the evening, included a ballroom dance from a pair of dancers before the troupe, wearing neutral tones, began playing drums that spat fire.

Mel Giedroyc said in the UK Eurovision commentary box: “He (Ryder) took that to an 11 and beyond…and he has the most fragrant hair in showbusiness, it’s floral with a note of Cheryl Baker.”

It is not the first time Ryder has performed with Taylor, as they joined forces alongside Queen guitarist Sir Brian May during a tribute concert for the late Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters at Wembley Stadium in September last year.

Taylor sat at his drum kit which featured the outline of his face on its bass drum skin.

Dirty Dancing unveils 2023 tour cast and dates.

Dirty Dancing has announced its casting for the 2023 UK and Ireland tour, following its successful run at the Dominion Theatre in London.

Michael O’Reilly and Kira Malou, who starred as Johnny and Baby, will reprise their roles for the tour. O’Reilly has previously appeared in West Side Story at the Leicester Curve, while Malou has starred in Fame at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre.

Producer Karl Sydow said today: “I am thrilled about the success of the second Dominion Theatre season and to be going out on tour for the fifth time since 2011. We have an amazing cast for this new tour.”

The rest of the company includes Georgia Aspinall as Penny Johnson, Jack Loy as Dr Jake Houseman, Taryn Sudding as Marjorie Houseman, Daisy Steere as Lisa Houseman, Danny Colligan as Billy Kostecki, Colin Charles as Tito Suarez, Christian James as Neil Kellerman, Mark McKerracher as Max Kellerman, and Lydia Sterling as Elizabeth.

The show will also feature Mark Faith, Lowri Hamilton, Tyler Lotzof, Jody Zimmerman, Eva Phillips, Callum Fitzgerald, Michael Nelson, Joel Benjamin, Akeem Ellis-Hyman, Jenna Warne, Taylor Bridges, Daisy West, Aaron J Smith, Ayden Morgan, and Thomas Inge.

The production is directed by Federico Bellone and choreographed by Austin Wilks, with costumes designed by Jennifer Irwin, lighting by Valerio Tiberi, sound design by Chris Whybrow, music supervision by Conrad Helfrich, and supervising musical direction by Richard John. The show is written by Eleanor Bergstein and produced by Karl Sydow in association with Lionsgate and Magic Hour Productions.

The tour will kick off on 25 May at the New Wimbledon Theatre in south London. After that it will visit Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Cardiff, Stoke-on-Trent, Sheffield, Birmingham, Oxford, Newcastle, Cork, Belfast, Dublin, Derry, Blackpool, Bradford, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Canterbury and Hull.

Dirty Dancing is inspired by the popular 1987 film and features hit songs such as “Hungry Eyes,” “Hey! Baby,” “Do You Love Me?” and “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life.”

Crazy For You, the Gershwin musical has announced casting for its London season.

Full casting has now been announced for the London transfer of Susan Stroman’s acclaimed production of Crazy For You at the Gillian Lynne Theatre.

Crazy For You will star Charlie Stemp, the Olivier-nominated star of Half a Sixpence and Mary Poppins as Bobby Child, Carly Anderson, star of Wicked as Polly Baker, and Drama Desk Award winner Tom Edden as Bela Zangler, following their critically acclaimed performances in the celebrated, sold-out production at Chichester Festival Theatre last summer.

• Birmingham Royal Ballet is to split the role of Chief Operating Officer following the resignation of Anna Williams after almost 30 years.
• Phoenix Dance Theatre and Opera North present a re-imagining of Mozart’s “Requiem” with South African dance partners Jazzart Dance Theatre at Leeds Grand Theatre from the 26th of May until the 4th of June. The choreography is by Dane Hurst.
• The cast has been announced for the musical “In Dreams” at the Leeds Playhouse from the 3rd of July until the 5th of August. It will star Oliver Thompsett, Lena Hall and Gabriela Garcia. The choreography is by Fabian Aloise and Paris Green.
• Full casting has been confirmed for the transfer of “Crazy For You” to the Gillian Lynne theatre in London from the 24th of June. It will star Charlie Stemp and Carly Anderson. The choreography is by Richard Pitt and Angelique Lio.
• “Dirty Dancing” unveiled the 2023 tour cast and dates. It will star Kira Malou and Michael O ‘Reilly as Baby and Johnny. The cast includes Georgia Aspinal as Penny, Tyler Lotzof and Daisy West. The choreography is by Austin Wilkes. The tour will begin in Wimbledon on the 25th of May.
• The cast has been revealed for the new all-male production of “The Mikado” at Wilton’s Music Hall from the 7th of June until the 1st of July. Lewis Kennedy will play Mikado. The choreography is by Adam Brahm.
• A production of “Evita” will take place at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on the 31st of July & the 1st of August. Auli’i Cravalho will play Evita.
• Burn The Floor revealed the full cast for its upcoming tour of Japan.

• Manchester’s Hope Mill theatre will stage the world premiere of “To Wong Foo – The Musical”, based on the 1995 film, on the 21st of October. The cast and creative team is to be announced. The casting is by Sarah Leung.
• “Hadestown” will open at the Lyric Theatre in the West End on the 10th of February 2024. The choreographer is David Neumann.
• The Chaka Khan musical “I’m Every Woman” announced plans to open in London. It will workshop in the West End in November. The director will be Racky Plews.
• The new musical “Starter for Ten” will premiere in Bristol next year at the Old Vic theatre from the 29th of February until the 30th of March 2024.
• “The King And I” will return to the West End in early 2024 starring Helen George and Darren Lee.
• “Sister Act – The Musical” will return to the Dominion theatre in the West End on the 15th of March 2024. It will star Beverley Knight and Alexandra Burke. The choreography is by Alistair David.
• A musical based on the songs produced by Stock, Aitken and Waterman called “I Should Be So Lucky” will open in Manchester on the 1st of November.
• A new musical based on the life and work of Frank Sinatra will open at the Birmingham Rep on the 23rd of September. The director and choreographer is Kathleen Marshall.
• The lead cast has been unveiled for “We Will Rock You” opening in the West End. It will star Lee Mead and Brenda Edwards.
• The upcoming “Wicked” tour has announced its lead casting. Laura Pick will play Elphaba. The show will open in Edinburgh on the 7th of December. The choreography is by Wayne Cilento.
• “Jesus Christ Superstar” will tour the UK in 2023/4 opening in Manchester this September. The choreography is by Drew McOnie.
• “The Wizard of Oz” will embark on a UK tour at Liverpool Empire on the 13th of December. The choreography is by Shay Barclay.
• “Come From Away” has confirmed plans for a new tour beginning in March 2024. The choreography is by Tara Wilkinson and Kirsty Malpas.
